Clé de Peau Extra Rich Lipstick
A few weeks ago, I was perusing @noodlesdoodleswithpretties's amazing blog sale and purchased a few goodies. (Here is her blog sale, which I need to share because it is full of amazing things. Ahem, maybe somebody repurchased a brand new Chanel Notorious? *cough*) Noodles very kindly added some extras among which was this lipstick sampler from Clé de Peau.
I've used a few Clé de Peau bits and bobs over the years. CdP is a brand in the Shiseido super umbrella of brands. It's very luxurious and for us in the US, one of the more readily available of the Japanese luxury brands. I've had few things work well for me, but the one lip product I've tried, the Enriched Lip Luminizer weren't my favorite. But with a chance to try out the traditional lipstick format, the Extra Rich Lipstick, I put them to the test.
This is an awesome little sample packet. It contains the different finish formats from the lipstick range and contains enough product for at least 3 or 4 applications. The top cover peels and re-covers easily, which keeps the product samples well protected.
The packet has samples of shade 103, 203, 303 and 311. Shades starting with the number 1, like the 103 here is Satin finish, which subtle pearl in it. The shades starting with 2, like my 203 is called Silk, which has stronger shimmer in it. And finally, the 3-series, like the 303 and 311 is a Velvet, which seems to me like a demo-matte finish.
I actually don't know if the Satins and the Silks all have shimmer or pearl in them, but they were in these particular shades. I guess I would need to check them all out in person at a counter. I am interested in checking out the new liquid lipsticks recently released from the line, so I think I will get to that.
You can see the finish a bit from the backside of the plastic packet.
Each of the shades are lightweight with a smooth creamy textures. The Satin and the Silk shades, 103 and 203, which the shimmer had some noticeable gritty feel on my lips. It wasn't terrible or irritating, but I much preferred the smoother feel of the other two shades.
Swatches. I can normally state that a swatch was one or two or more passes of the bullet, but in this case, since I was working from samples, I scooped a tiny bit out with a cotton bud and then smoothed it out with my finger.
- 103 is a softly pearlized warm coral. On my lips, it has a strong brown undertone.
- 203 is a shimmery pinky coral. There's a strong fine gold shimmer that is prevalent when applied on the lips. It was also slightly patchy when applied on the lips and drier in texture.
- 303 is a deep warm rose. This richly pigmented and smooth in feel.
- 313 is a bright neutral red.
I am wearing 203 in this photo.
The shades were all very pretty, especially the Velvet shades in this pack. I did feel that the lipstick felt pleasingly light on the lips, but didn't quite live up the the "extra rich" part of its name. It wasn't drying, but it definitely didn't feel very moisturizing on my lips. I felt the Velvet shades also lasted much longer on my lips than the Silk and Satin shades which lasted a scant 3 hours before fading into a soft stain.
Boy! I wish I got sample of color products on a more regular basis. I don't recall getting samples of color makeup products. Do you ever get them? How do we get more of these?!
